Trapped and fitted with a radio collar another brown bear in Rendena valley
Within the monitoring activities of brown bears in the lower Rendena valley, aimed to control the most problematic bears and those causing more damages, last night a 129 kg young male brown bear was captured and fitted with a radio collar. The bear was captured on the right side of the Sarca river (Porte di Rendena municipality). For its characteristics, it seems to be the bear, which last summer caused damages to the farms of the area. The hypothesis will be confirmed by the next genetic analyses.
The bear was captured at 10.30 p.m., using a tube trap, by the Forests and Wildlife Department, with the help of the veterinarians from the local Sanitary Service. The GPS set on the collar will guarantee the intensive monitoring of the bear.
Capture and following aversive conditioning activities are included within the actions of problematic bears management, foreseen by the Life Dinalp Bear Project, of which the Province of Trento is one of the partners, together with Veneto Region, Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia.
